World Heritage Falu Mine

The world heritage Falun and Falu Mine is a destination with a thousand-year history. The last blast in December 1992 put an end to hundreds of years of uninterrupted mining in the Falu Mine. It was at the same time the start of the transformation into a modern destination with world heritage status. A beautiful and impressive place where falu-red buildings, cafés, restaurants and shops surround the open pit Stora stöten. There are deep shafts, winding passages and large halls. Here you feel the wings of history.

The Falu mine, the mining landscape, and Falun’s town centre are on UNESCO’s list of sites so valuable that they shall be preserved forever, joining just over a thousand world heritage sites in the world.
